KINDA KAPERS TIGHES HILL LONG DAY CARE & PRESCHOOL

Kinda Kapers Tighes Hill is situated in an extensively restored 100 year old church building which is conveniently located next to Tighes Hill Public School. We are the proud custodians of this significant local landmark which embraces the heritage of the Tighes Hill & Mayfield area, and we are proud to be active in the local close-knit community. The soaring brickwork, beautiful stained glass windows and amazingly high ceilings create a fantastic environment for children.

We aim to provide the highest quality in care and education through our dedicated and passionate educators. Our four indoor areas provide children with plenty of places and spaces for a variety of active exploring and learning, as well as cozy quiet areas for children to just ‘be’. We also have two bright, fun and engaging outdoor spaces for the children to enjoy.

Our preschool rooms have carefully planned learning environments in what was the main church building. We have a wide variety of resources, including iPads and SmartBoards as well as more traditional toys, to encourage critical thinking, problem solving, creativity and imagination. Our babies have their own space in what was the church hall, and their own separate playground to explore and grow.

Overall our aim is to provide children with a warm & inclusive environment where they can learn confidently in positive, safe surroundings where families and community are valued.

In 2011 the Uniting Church happily sold 22-24 Bryant St to Kinda Kapers after we shared our plans to restore the original church building for use as a childcare centre. (The alternative buyers were seeking to clear the site and construct a high density residential building.)

Throughout 2013 extensive renovations were completed. This included re-pointing (fixing the grout) to the brickwork on the entire church building & hall, recoating and preserving the exposed structural timbers inside the church buildings and restoring the stained glass windows. This has helped to bring the grandeur back to this beautiful building that was originally constructed in 1920.

During construction of the carpark a large 3m wide brick lined well was discovered. While this provided a challenge for the carpark, it is easy to imagine the large community well next to the Church being a pivotal location for the Tighes Hill area in the early 1900s. Local historians have also been interested in the World War I & World War II honour boards that still proudly hang in the hall.

All of this history, combined with the many local stories we have heard of marriages, baptisms and other happy events add to our pride in maintaining this historical landmark for the community.
